Discover the virtues of Activated Carbon

Every year, 89 billion plastic water bottles are sold around the world. Every minute, more than a million liters of bottled water flow.

An alarming figure, especially when we consider the environmental impact of this material and we now know that bottled water is not always healthier between micro-plastics and microbiological contamination.

However, water is essential to our health and well-being.

Fortunately, there is a more environmentally friendly alternative: tap water.

However, the quality of tap water can vary greatly from region to region and some consumers are hesitant to drink it due to its sometimes chlorinated taste or lime content .

This is where the activated vegetable charcoal comes into play. Natural, reusable and effective, it allows you to filter tap water and enjoy purified water.

What is Activated Carbon?

Activated carbon, also called activated carbon, is a porous material derived from organic materials such as coconut shell, wood or charcoal. Its porous structure allows it to absorb various substances, making it an excellent filter for water.

Its use dates back to ancient Egypt, where it was already used 3600 years ago . Since then, it is in Japan that activated carbon is mainly used, notably under the name of Binchotan coal . The Japanese integrate it into their daily lives.

Activated Carbon Manufacturing Process

1/ Drying and Cooking :
    • The selected wood is first dried.
    • Then it is cooked in an earth oven at a temperature of around 400°C for several days.
    • Opening the oven causes the wood to burn at a high temperature of around 1200°C .
    • The tar present in the wood is released from the pores of the charcoal, giving it a great capacity for adsorption (not to be confused with absorption).
    2/ Adsorption Properties :
    • Adsorption is a surface phenomenon by which molecules attach to the surfaces of activated carbon.
    • Thanks to its porous structure, activated carbon effectively adsorbs impurities present in tap water.

Benefits of Putting an Activated Charcoal Stick in Your Water Jug

      1. Filtration of Impurities 🚰
        • Activated charcoal acts as a magnet for toxins, heavy metals and chemicals in water. It effectively removes these impurities, making the water cleaner and safer to drink.
      2. Elimination of Bad Odors and Tastes 👃
        • If you find that your tap water has an unpleasant taste or smell, activated charcoal can help. It absorbs the compounds responsible for these sensations, improving the taste of your water.
      3. Ecological and Economical 🌎
        • Using an activated charcoal stick is an eco-friendly alternative to plastic water bottles. You can reuse the same stick for about three months. Once used up, recycle it as fertilizer for your plants.
        • Less plastic waste, more benefits for the planet!

It is also a better alternative than filter jugs or filters directly under the tap.

Often made of plastic, carafes require rigorous hygiene otherwise they risk becoming breeding grounds for microbes.

And for filters, they purify the water too much and deprive it of all its good minerals.

How to Use an Activated Carbon Stick?

      1. Preparation :
        • Boil the charcoal stick for 5 to 10 minutes to sterilize it.
        • Let it dry for a few hours.
      2. Placement in the Water Carafe :
        • Place the charcoal stick in your carafe of water.
        • Let the water sit for 4 to 8 hours to allow the charcoal to absorb the impurities, but the charcoal will already begin to absorb after 1 hour.
      3. Renewal :
        • Replace the charcoal stick every 6 months to maintain its effectiveness.

Bottom line, by using an activated charcoal stick, you can enjoy cleaner, healthier, more palatable water.

So why not try this natural method to purify your water? Your health and the environment will thank you! 💧
